MEET THOMAS GALLOWAY

My name is Thomas Galloway, I am writing to ask for your endorsement for the 2nd Senate District Seat of the State Central Committee, Ohio Democratic Party in the May 5th Primary Election. The district includes several communities in western Lucas County. I was first elected in 2012 following the redrawing of the district following the 2010 Census.

A bit about my background. I am a lifelong resident of northwest Ohio and have lived in Perrysburg since 1976.  I worked as a Locomotive Engineer for the Penn Central-ConRail-Norfolk Southern system, retiring in October of 2007.  I have been a union member since my undergraduate days at Ohio Northern University, first as a member of the Lima, Ohio, Federation of Musicians when I played with the Lima Symphony Orchestra, the United Transportation Union-Local 102, where I served as Legislative Representative and the local and state level, and finally the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen.  I served both rail labor organizations as Legislative Representative at the Local and State Level. I served as 2nd Vice Chairman of the Ohio State Legislative Board of the Brotherhood from 2007 until May of 2010 when my term expired. At that time, I was appointed as Political Advisor to the Board, a position I still hold.  I was elected BLET Division 4 delegate to the Northwest Ohio AFL-CIO Central Labor Council, in 2002 and represented the Ohio State Legislative Board of the BLET and three terms as a member of the Executive Board. I returned to the CLC in 2024 to represent the BLET Ohio State Legislative Board. I serve on the steering committee of Toledo Area Jobs with Justice and served as their Labor Chairman from 2015-2026. I believe in, and fully support organized labor, having carried a union card of one organization or another for close to 50 years. Since retiring, I have spent time in Haiti with Missions International of America, on whose board I have served since 2002.

In addition to my union activities, I am a member of the executive board of the Wood County Democratic Party and a member of the executive board of the Perrysburg Democratic Club, and currently serve as Precinct Captain. To date, I have been endorsed by the Greater Northwest Ohio AFL-CIO Central Labor Council and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen-Ohio State Legislative Board. I anticipate endorsement of the Wood County Democratic Party at their next meeting.

I was married to my wife, Terri, for almost fifty years. She passed in 2021. I have two married sons and three grandsons.

I ask for your support as I seek to keep the voice for labor in the 2nd Senate District of the State Central Committee.
