State House – Democratic Minority Leadership – 136th General Assembly

The Ohio House of Representatives Minority Leadership Team. The minority caucus is comprised of the party with the fewest members represented. Each session, members of the minority caucus select a slate of leaders, headed by the minority leader.

DEMOCRATIC CAUCUS LEADERSHIP

Minority Leader – Representative Dani Isaacsohn – District 24. The Minority Leader is elected by all members of the House to lead the party in the minority and is responsible for the development and implementation of the legislation of the caucus agenda.

House Minority Leader Dani Isaacsohn is the son of immigrants, deeply rooted in Ohio, where he attended Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Walnut Hills High School. He currently represents Ohio’s 24th House District, which includes Downtown Cincinnati, Over-the-Rhine, Price Hill, Westwood, and nearby neighborhoods. Those formative years gave him a strong sense of community and an early understanding that policy is not theoretical—it shapes people’s lives in real and lasting ways. That perspective has stayed with him across a career focused on elevating the voices of those most directly affected by state lawmakers.

Drawing on years of experience as an organizer and non-profit founder, Leader Isaacsohn has focused his work on building coalitions, crafting practical solutions, and keeping communities at the center of decision-making. This blend of experiences has reinforced his conviction that good policy must be informed by on-the-ground realities and supported by effective, pragmatic implementation.

As House Minority Leader, Rep. Isaacsohn is prioritizing legislative pathways for every family to succeed. His work reflects an enduring belief in public education as the foundation of strong communities, in housing policy that addresses affordability and stability, and in criminal justice reforms that advance fairness and opportunity. He is equally focused on ensuring seniors can age with dignity and that working parents have access to childcare options that meet their needs.

Rep. Isaacsohn holds degrees from Georgetown University, the University of Cambridge, and Yale Law School, and continues to view Ohio not simply as his home, but as the place that inspires his commitment to service. His leadership is informed by lived experience and a belief that policies work best when they are designed for and with the people they impact most.

Assistant Minority Leader – Representative Phillip M. Robinson, Jr. – District 19. The Assistant Minority Leader is elected by all members of the House and assists the Minority Leader in development and implementation of the agenda for the party in the minority.

Born and raised in Northeast Ohio, Rep. Robinson saw firsthand how sacrifice, dedication, and perseverance make it possible to live the American dream. Like many other African Americans, his parents’ families migrated from the South to the North for opportunities and they stayed for the community. Rep. Robinson learned the values of family, hard work, and service from his parents who worked overtime and nights to move their family from the inner city of Cleveland to the suburb of Bedford Heights. Rep. Robinson watched his parents sacrifice to give him and his sister a chance at a quality education and a better way of life.

After graduating from Gilmour Academy, with the help of an academic scholarship, work-study programs, and summer jobs, Rep. Robinson earned his undergraduate degree in finance from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Like many of his classmates, he was deeply affected by the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Instead of seeking a job on Wall Street after graduation, Rep. Robinson chose to serve as a congressional legislative aide for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).

Several years later, Robinson worked as an account executive for a Fortune 500 marketing and public affairs firm. He later moved back to Northeast Ohio, where he worked for several small businesses and Fortune 500 companies, and received his Executive Master of Business Administration from the Case Western Reserve University Weatherhead School of Management.

After a successful career in the private sector, Rep. Robinson served as the Executive Director of City Year Cleveland, an education nonprofit that partners with public schools to help keep students in school and on track to graduate. He led the organization out of debt, doubled the budget, and expanded services to help more students graduate from high school. Under Rep. Robinson’s leadership, City Year doubled its revenue, grew its operations by 20 percent, and helped a Cleveland school increase its graduation rate from 39% to 73% in five short years.

Rep. Robinson would go on to use his business expertise to serve as the Senior Vice President for Regional and Site Operations for City Year, Inc. He oversaw all aspects of operations for 28 U.S. sites, including five regional vice presidents, nearly 700 site staff, 3,000 AmeriCorps members, and a total revenue budget of $168 million. Since being elected to the Statehouse, Rep. Robinson continues to work as a senior education non-profit executive. Today he serves as the Chief Impact Officer for Reading Partners, a national nonprofit that works with communities to provide students with individual reading support to reach reading proficiency by fourth grade.

Rep. Robinson, and his wife, Elizabeth, live in Solon with their two children, where he is an active member of his community. Currently, he serves on the boards of Gilmour Academy and the United Black Fund Foundation. Rep. Robinson has also received numerous awards and honors including Crain’s Cleveland Business 2015 Forty Under 40, Pahara NextGen Leader (a program of the Aspen Institute), Crain’s Cleveland Business “Who to Watch in Education,” Leadership Cleveland Class of 2013, Top 25 Under 35 Movers and Shakers by Inside Business Magazine, and The George Washington University Wall of Fame in 2001.

Minority Whip – Representative Beryl Brown Piccolantonio – District 4. The Minority Whip is elected by all members of the House and is responsible for monitoring legislation and securing votes for legislation on the floor. The term ‘Whip’ originated in the Parliament of the United Kingdom and is derived from the ‘whipper-in” at a fox hunt.

State Representative Dani Isaacsohn is currently serving his first term representing Ohio’s 24th House District. The district includes almost half of the City of Cincinnati. He also serves as Minority Whip for the Ohio House Democratic Caucus.

In the Statehouse, Rep. Isaacsohn is committed to fighting for a world-class public education for every student, better childcare for parents, smarter housing policy to bring down prices and increase supply, and making sure that seniors have what they need to age with dignity. He also knows that we must tackle racial and income inequality head-on in order to make lasting progress.

Rep. Isaacsohn is a Walnut Hills High School graduate, and received a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University, a master’s degree from Cambridge University, and a J.D. from Yale Law School. He serves as the ranking member on the Civil Justice Committee and the Finance Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Education and also serves on the Finance, Government Oversight, Ways and Means, Rules and Reference, and Technology and Innovation committees.
