Mindy Kayl Launches Candidacy for Erie County Commissioner
News Release | 2.15.2026
Mindy Kayl announces her Candidacy for Erie County Commissioner. Her goal is to provide balanced representation with a commitment to transparency, accountability and cooperation. Democratic Party Candidate Kayl says. “As an elected official it will be my job to represent the needs and concerns of ALL people in Erie County and that will be my highest priority.”
Kayl’s connection to Erie County is generational, starting with her Grandmother Ruth Bluhm who opened the first licensed home day care in Sandusky in 1950. Kayl’s mother graduated from Sandusky High School and you may have bought a Baskin Robbins ice cream cone from her Aunt and Uncle at the Sandusky Mall.
Kayl started a wetlands consulting business in 2007, and successfully completed contracts with the U.S. Forest Service, county government and State Department of Transportation. Her business provided professional interpretation of local, state and federal regulations for private land owners and government agencies. The foundation of Kayl’s professional career was built upon 10 years of service with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the National Science Foundation, in Antarctica and throughout the Pacific Ocean. As a business owner and environmental scientist, Kayl was ethical and fiscally responsible and dedicated to striking a balance between development and environmental protection.
Kayl’s first elected position was as an officer in her grade school 4-H club, then high school and college student council. As an adult, she has continued to be an involved community member by volunteering and serving on advisory boards. This community service included providing senior meals, relocating and expanding the local food bank, working to preserve critical habitat, while ensuring access to water front and hiking trails.
As a small farmer and lifelong 4-H volunteer, Kayl understands the cultural importance and economic value of agriculture. Kayl will strive to represent and advocate for the needs and interests of our local farmers. Kayl says, “I will work for a balance between creating jobs and protecting the environment; safeguarding the land that many Erie County residents rely upon to sustain their livelihoods and enhance their quality of life.”
