Representative Allison Russo:
“I am running for Ohio Secretary of State because
I believe our elections should serve you,
not billionaires and big corporations.
As your Secretary of State,
I will fight to ensure every vote is counted,
every election is fair, and ballot language is clear and honest.
Democracy only works when it works for everyone.”

Meet Allison

A Leading Voice

Representative Allison Russo is the former Minority Leader of the Ohio House of Representatives, the first Democrat in a decade to flip a central-Ohio seat, and one of the state’s leading voices on health care access, protecting worker’s rights, and election integrity.

Having seen firsthand the tactics used to hold power at the expense of Ohioans, Allison knows that if we don’t protect democracy, we lose the power to fix everything else — and she’s never been afraid to take that fight head-on.

Since entering the legislature in 2019, she has authored or co-sponsored dozens of bills signed into law, steered bipartisan reforms through a Republican super-majority, and helped build grassroots coalitions that:

  • Defeated the August 2023 Issue 1 “60%” power-grab, preserving citizen-led direct democracy.
  • Enshrined reproductive freedom in the Ohio Constitution—the largest single-issue victory for voters in state history.
  • Expanded mental-health-parity protections, veteran services, the historic Fair School Funding Plan, and access to child care services for working families.

Experience and Results

Before she was elected to the Ohio House, Allison spent more than 20 years working to solve real problems in health care — advising federal agencies, decision makers, and health systems on how to improve care for seniors, veterans, military families, and vulnerable communities. She’s earned national recognition for her work on mental health, early childhood, aging, and disability issues.

Since taking office, Allison has served on some of the most important legislative committees in the state — Health, Finance, Medicaid Oversight, Constitutional Resolutions, and the Ohio Redistricting Commission — giving her a clear view of both how good policy gets made and how politicians try to bend the rules to keep power. She’s introduced and passed legislation to protect our communities, expand access to affordable healthcare, strengthen public schools, and support working families.

Outside the Statehouse, Allison is senior director for a federally-qualified small business, helping leaders make decisions based on facts, transparency, and real results. She holds a Doctor of Public Health in Health Policy from the George Washington University and a Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
