Meet Darlene L. Walk
Darlene L. Walk is a lifelong resident of Erie County, Ohio, residing in Sandusky, whose commitment to community service, civic engagement, and leadership has spanned decades. Through her work with nonprofit organizations, community advocacy groups, faith-based institutions, and public service organizations, she has dedicated herself to improving the quality of life for residents throughout the region.
A graduate of Sandusky High School, Darlene earned an Associate Degree in Business and later became a licensed cosmetologist. Continuing
her professional development, she graduated from Ohio State Barber College in 1976, earning credentials as a Master Barber Stylist. Drawing on her entrepreneurial spirit, she went on to own and operate Ducky’s Unisex Barber & Shop for more than 44 years, serving generations of clients while establishing herself as a respected business owner within the community.
Darlene has remained deeply connected to her faith and church community throughout her life. She is a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church of Sandusky, where she currently serves on the Praise and Worship Team. Her faith-based service has been an important foundation for her lifelong commitment to helping others.
Her dedication to civic and community leadership has led to service in numerous organizations throughout Erie County. Darlene currently serves on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity of Erie County and is a member of the organization’s Financial Committee. She also serves as Vice President of the Community Relations Committee for Habitat for Humanity, helping to strengthen community partnerships and outreach efforts throughout the county.
Recognizing her leadership and commitment to public service, Darlene was selected as a member of the 2024–2025 Erie County Leadership Class, further expanding her involvement in community development and regional leadership initiatives.
A strong advocate for civil rights and community empowerment, Darlene is a lifetime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). She previously served as President of the Erie County NAACP Unit 3199 from 2023 to 2025 and currently serves as a member of the Executive Board of NAACP Unit 3199, continuing her efforts to promote equity, justice, and community engagement.
Darlene’s commitment to public service also extends into the political arena. She currently serves as a member of the Erie County Democratic Party Executive Board. In addition, she serves on the Executive Board of Serving Our Seniors of Erie County, where she contributes to programs and initiatives that support older adults throughout the region. Her service includes participation on the organization’s Policy and Program Committee as well as its Nominating and Development Committee.
Most recently, Darlene was elected Vice Chair of the Erie County Democratic Party, a role that reflects her longstanding dedication to civic involvement, leadership development, and community advocacy.
Throughout her life and career, Darlene Walk has exemplified servant leadership through her business accomplishments, faith-based service, nonprofit involvement, civil rights advocacy, and commitment to strengthening the Erie County community. Her work continues to leave a lasting impact on the organizations she serves and the people whose lives she touches.
